Rise of the mum cave

Mother & Baby (Australia) - - Temper Tantrums -

You’ve heard of the man cave – a special place in the home where dad can slip away from all the madness and enjoy doing whatever he wants – but what about a ‘mum cave?’ A survey of more than 13,000 Aussies by Fantastic Furniture has revealed that a quarter of respondents have a man cave in their home, whereas more than 70 per cent of women would love to have a space to call their own.

Fantastic Furniture CEO Debra Singh says, “An overwhelming majority said they want their own ‘mummy zone’ to chill out in and have some much-needed me-time. The man cave has become a commonly accepted concept and yet, as our survey shows, there is no female equivalent,” she explains. “It is accepted that men need time out to retreat from a hectic family life, yet there is nowhere for mum to go.”

It can be as simple as fashioning a reading nook in a corner with a comfy amchair or, if you’re short on space, schedule some chill-out time in your bedroom with a cuppa and all queries being diverted straight to dad. Sounds heavenly!
