You know your body would feel better with a little exercise, but frankly, it’s the last thing you feel like doing. And we’re right there with you: who has the spare energy to waste on star jumps right now? The answer for you is a fitness class you can take your baby to and, if you’re balking at the very word ‘fitness’, focus on all the other benefits you’ll get from going to a meet-up with lots of other mums. From groups that meet for in-park pram-pushing action to dance classes with mums wearing youngsters in slings and yoga sessions where babies get equal rights to space on the mat, the focus is on everyone enjoying themselves.
No-one will bat an eyelid if you need to take a break during the class to give your baby a quick top-up feed, and there’s always at least one nappy that needs to be changed. And although there’s nothing less-than-serious about the quality of the workout you’re getting, this is all about exercising with a smile on your face and having enough breath left to interact with your youngster and fellow mums. Oh, and there’s always time to chat at the beginning and end of the sessions, so you’ll soon be swapping baby stories with your new mum-mates. Exercise? This feels nothing like it!
