Motor (Australia) - - THE VENT -

It will be a very sad day indeed when manual transmissions disappear from cars. I learned to drive in an old Subaru Leone manual wagon and have always had manuals. I’ve only ever had one auto (a Falcon AU) and it was a very boring drive.

In my humble experience, you cannot replace the fun or skill it takes to drive a manual through the twisties or on a race track. Imagine if you could purchase a new Porsche 911 Turbo, Ferrari 488 or Nissan GT-R in manual?

Autos are no replacement for a good manual transmission. It doesn’t matter if the auto is a few tenths quicker; it’s no equivalent to the skill of driving a manual. Jose Sanchez, via email
