World’s quickest SUV
V8 GLC63 offers 3.8sec 0-100km/h for $165K
The world’s quickest SUV is now an AMG. Local pricing and spec for the new Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S has been revealed with the softroader claimed to be capable of 0-100km/h in just 3.8sec and a limited top speed of 270km/h.
This speed is courtesy of AMG’s 375kW/700Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and new nine-speed wet-clutch automatic allied to Merc’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, which incorporates an electronic limitedslip rear diff.
Adaptive air suspension is standard with braking handled by 390mm rotors and four-piston calipers up front and 360mm rotors with single-piston floating calipers at the rear. Carbon ceramic front rotors measuring 402mm with sixpiston calipers are optional.
Wheels are 21s all round wearing the latest Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres 265/40 front and 295/35 rear.
The GLC63 S is priced from $164,900 and the Coupe $171,900 with a limited edition “Edition 1” launch package available on either for an extra $10,900. Big money, but the next quickest SUV is the $400K-plus Bentley Bentayga.
GLC63 S will be available in ‘wagon’ or Coupe forms and marks the first SUV appearance for AMG’s 4.0-litre V8
