ASTON REVEALS DROP-TOP DB11
AN INEVITABLE model reveal perhaps, but a beautiful one nonetheless. Aston Martin has dropped the top on its DB11 grand tourer, finally replacing the long-serving DB9 Volante. What’s perhaps surprising is that Aston has chosen to release the DB11 Volante in V8 guise first, with the V12 being reserved for the hardtop – for the time being at least. The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, sourced from AMG, produces 375kW/675Nm but is linked to a traditional eight-speed automatic rather than the sevenspeed MCT wet-clutch auto traditionally used by Mercedes’ hot rods. The 0-100km/h sprint takes 4.1sec, while top speed is 300km/h neat. Local deliveries will begin mid-2018, with pricing to be announced closer to the date. Don’t expect much change from $400,000.
