What Gaerne’s trail shoes lack in underfoot feedback, they make up for with efficient pedalling and solid walking performance, plus the inclusion of a fully-waterproof Gore-Tex upper for a great price. The Vibram sole gives great all-round grip and they’re well-shaped and flexible enough for extended walking. There’s even a cleat-hole cover in case you’re off clipless pedals for a while. Be wary of clearance on some platform-style pedals, and don’t expect much sensory perception through the thick, tall sole. They pedal well though, with a comfortably neutral fit. Secure lacing is backed up with a wrap-over strap. Because the tongue bellows extend as high as the heel cuff, you can paddle through puddles without them getting flooded, making them great for UK exploring.
