from an early age, MBUK columnist and Specialized brand ambassador Hannah Barnes sought adventure. At 15, she sailed across the Atlantic with her parents and brother. Two years later, she was living in Alaska working for a sled dog racing outfit. Since then the pace hasn’t stopped, and it doesn’t look like it will any time soon. Hannah’s desire to be outside has always been clear, whether for mountain biking, running or skiing. She’s enjoyed a varied racing career that’s seen her doing eight-day cross-country races in Colombia one week and racing the Enduro World Series in Whistler the next.
As Hannah has taken on a more ambassadorial role at Specialized, her summers have still largely been taken up with travelling far and wide, whether she’s leading women’s rides in Guatemala or helping on trail building days in Slovenia. But when each trip comes to an end, she heads home to her favourite place – a little log cabin hidden away in the hills of Fort William, with her four-legged friend Lumi.
We caught up with Hannah at home to see what life is like when she’s not on the road and found a unique and happy person who’s always smiling and appreciating everything and everyone around her, living in the moment and enjoying the small things in life. Here's what it's like to spend a day in the life of Hannah Barnes...
