Feedback Sports Omnium portable trainer £349.99

Mountain Biking UK - - WRECKED & RATED -

This well-made, easy to use and neatly compact trainer uses two rollers that sit under your bike’s rear wheel and apply progressive magnetic resistance to create the drag needed for a decent warm-up or hard training session. The roller unit attaches to the front tripod via a telescopic slider, which accommodates wheelbases up to just over 1,200mm. A fork bracket on the (collapsible) tripod then allows you to anchor your bike in place. Various push-in adapters are provided, so the Omnium will accept just about any kind of front axle going. Although you can’t adjust the resistance, as on some turbo trainers, we found that, as long as we used our gears, we were never left wanting for more drag when working hard. The rollers themselves are reasonably quiet (though it’s certainly not the stealthiest trainer out there), but there’s a distinctive whir that increases in volume as you turn the pedals faster. They’re incredibly smooth though, and don’t slip even during really big efforts. The Omnium folds away quickly and easily, fitting into the compact bag provided (680x200x200mm).
