Start/ inish Hebden Bridge station car park (grid ref SD 995/269, postcode HX7 6JE)

1

Head left before the main road and ride through the park. Pass under canal bridge 19 then go right on the road by the Stubbing Wharf pub. Turn right, then left on Church Lane. Climb until it bears left and keep ahead on a dead-end road. When a rockier, steeper track branches slightly left, join it.

2

Further uphill, the trail becomes a wider track. Keep ahead to a road by the New Delight Inn and go left, uphill, then continue ahead on a rough track when the road bears sharply left. Pass a farmhouse, then just past a barn further on, turn left on some singletrack. Go right at the T-junction and then continue ahead until you reach a fork by some buildings.

3

Bear right here and climb. The track then descends to a T-junction, where you should turn left and follow it to a road. Turn right on the tarmac, take the first left, then the first right, on a dead-end road (Windy Harbour Lane). Descend past some houses then make a right at the T-junction, o -road. Proceed downhill and bear left before a wall and gate. Keep ahead to the sharp corner of a road and go right on it.

4

When the road bears right, go ahead to emerge at the golf club. Continue on tarmac to the road and turn right, then descend to a T-junction and go left. Ride through the village and, after a lone house on the right, go right on a bridleway. 5

Proceed to a T-junction and go right on a wide track, which bears left. Before some houses, go right to a courtyard. Head left between the buildings on singletrack that zig-zags down the hillside, keeping right at a junction, to a car park/ picnic area by the main road. The alternative start point is here.

6

Go right then left onto Haugh Road. Bear right before the bridge to join the canal going left. Follow it back to Hebden Bridge to finish, or, after passing lock 12, exit the towpath over a small bridge to the left and ride to the main road. Go under the bridge to the left on Stony Lane and turn left at the junction with Oakville Road, climbing into the trees.

7

Zig-zag uphill to a cottage on the left, and turn left. Ride to a T-junction, then head right to the road. Go left then right on the Pennine Bridleway, passing some cottages to the left, and continue to the New Delight Inn. Go right on the road, uphill. When you descend to a common (on both sides), go right by the bus stop signs. Take the left branch of the two tracks.

8

Keep ahead, then left at the T-junction. Go right before a stone barn, on a singletrack bridleway, and zig-zag downhill, through the trees. Exit by a house to a better track and go right. Descend, then take the short climb to rejoin the lane in step 1 and go left, downhill, back to Hebden Bridge.
