MAKING THE BEST OF IT
This hasn’t exactly been the best year for mountain biking (so far, at least), but one thing that’s been keeping our spirits up has been the perfect spring conditions. It feels almost cruel that we haven’t been able to get out and enjoy them properly, but without a doubt, lockdown confinement would have felt a whole lot tougher had it been raining non-stop. The woods are always looking their best at this time of year too. It’s as though everything has been painted in a fresh, vibrant green, and the sight of a dusty ribbon of singletrack snaking through the bluebells is the sort of thing Mint Sauce’s dreams are made of.
At MBUK, we feel lucky that we’ve got some fun local trails to enjoy, which may not be world-class, but have certainly seen some action from a world-class rider this year – namely Bristol’s finest, Laurie Greenland. With World Cup racing on hold, the UK’s next big DH threat has been out making the best of it and trying to keep his eye in so he’s ready when the time comes. We can imagine that it’s tough to stay motivated for something you’re not sure is even coming, and Laurie admitted to us that he was gutted, having taken his training and preparation to another level this off-season. For now, though, he’s stuck in the same boat as the rest of us – enjoying what we can of the woods and waiting in anticipation until it’s time to get wild again!
