MORE than 50 members of the Buller Ski Lifts team gathered at ABOM on Friday, August 19 joined by partners and friends to celebrate a collective 815 years/ seasons working at Mt Buller.
“Many people see the ski industry and its people as being transient but as our service awards ceremonies show us each year this is definitely not the case at Mt Buller,” explained Buller Ski Lifts general manager Laurie Blampied.
“Many of the people we honoured tonight have spent several decades dedicated to this mountain and the community.”
Special honour went to Alan Terrens who marked off an impressive 45 years working with the Mt Buller Ski Patrol, and all completed as a volunteer.
Alan started in 1972 and is a valued member of the Ski Patrol team retaining his youthful enthusiasm for skiing and helping guests with no signs of waning.
Another example of the commitment and also strong family bonds built at Mt Buller were the recipients of a 25 year and 10 year award, presented to father and daughter Richard and Jessica Haslau.
Richard has coached hundreds of skiers over his quarter century on the mountain and fondly recalled starting out working for (now mountain manager) Nick Reeves.
Jessica was delighted to accept her 10 year pin which is quite an achievement considering she is only 24 years old.
Jessica is continuing the family tradition coaching young skiers and also racing herself.
Her mum Rachel is in the ‘family’ business as well, managing the Bunyips junior program in the Ski and Snowboard School.
Laurie Blampied was on the receiving end of his own 20 year service award presented by Nick Whitby, managing director of Buller Ski Lifts and Lorenz Grollo, chief executive officer of Grollo Group who both acknowledged Laurie’s commitment and leadership at Mt Buller.
15 years’ service recipients Peter Lynn, Joel Graham, Ivan Matey, Mel O’Halloran and Michael Stapleton.
