Drawn to The Sebel because of snow and sun
THE Taylor family of Melbourne are snow lovers through and through.
Dad Nathan, mum Melissa (Mel) and daughters Saskia (Sassi - 4) and Coco (7) are one such family that live for the snow during winter.
For the past two seasons the Taylor family have been coming to Mt Buller every weekend – particularly during the course of the Snow Squad program which lasts for 30 days - of which the girls are a part.
“We pack the car on Fridays and head on up after work,” Nathan said.
“We have stayed at The Sebel Pinnacle Valley each weekend as we can arrive at any time at night, carry the girls inside if they are asleep and put them into bed, then wake up in the morning and we are almost at the snowfields.
“It is then just a short drive up the mountain to the car park and from there onto the slopes, or if the traffic is busy then we can opt to catch a bus,” he said.
“We find The Sebel family friendly, the apartments are bigger than what we could get on Buller and we have everything we need there – extra skiing equipment and clothing hire, a restaurant and play areas for the girls.”
Nathan said the staff at The Sebel are also very accommodating – have become a little like their family, and the girls love Casey from the ski hire.
“We can come down off the mountain and enjoy a meal at the restaurant without fuss.
“It’s a great resort with everything there – and we intend to come back in summer as the girls can start bike riding on trails and the family can picnic at Mirimbah Park or we can go up the mountain again,” Nathan said.
Coco has bonded with her ski instructor here at Buller and this summer the family will travel to Japan for further skiing – and Coco’s instructor will be at the resort over there to continue her learning.
“We have skied in the USA (Colorado) and Japan and love Japan,” Nathan said.
But it is the ease of reaching Mt Buller and the ski experience here that the family find so good during winter.
“We can get out of Melbourne easily on Friday and return again on Sunday and we are away from the bustle of the city – enjoying what we do as a family and the travelling is not too long,” Nathan said.
Nathan said the girls have other sporting activities but they love the snow and skiing – something they may just aspire to progress with as they grow older.
As for Nathan – well he said he was a late starter in skiing but loves it just the same.
LOVE YOU CASEY: Sassi and Coco Taylor love the staff at The Sebel, especially Casey from the ski hire who plays with them as well and has become like a big brother.
