Celebrating 60 years of Victorian Interschools
THE 60th Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships will be celebrated this year at Mt Buller. It is an extraordinary achievement by the schools, the sport, event management groups and Mt Buller over this time.
The Interschools began with a handful of Alpine Skiing competitors from two schools in 1958. Approximately 2800 students from 180 schools will compete in nine disciplines totalling approximately 6000 event entries in 2017.
The Subaru Victorian Cross Country Championships will be conducted at Mt Buller on Sunday, August 6. The Tirol flat Cross Country (XC) course, which was designed in conjunction with Ski and Snowboard Australia will be open on Saturday, August 5 for training. Over 800 event entries are expected in this fantastic event.
The Subaru Victorian Interschool Snowsports Championships will be hosted at Mt Buller from August 21 – 27. Students will compete in the disciplines of Alpine Skiing, Moguls, Ski Cross, Snowboard Cross, Snowboard Giant Slalom, Slopestyle Skiing and Slopestyle Snowboard.
The top 15 individuals and top six teams from each event will qualify for the Subaru Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships.
The Subaru Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships as well as the South Australian Schools Snowsports Championships will also be hosted at Mt Buller in 2017.
Event manager for Interschools at Mt Buller David Speirs, said that everyone was excited about the upcoming season.
“The team that put on these events have been working hard on the planning and are continually looking to improve all areas of the event experience including new live timing and scoring across all events,” Mr Speirs said.
“Our goal is to stage world class Interschools events that are not only accessible but deliver an extraordinary competition experience for all levels of participants, as well as their families and schools.”
