Mt Buller News - - MT BULLER SOCIAL SCENE - By DAVID MIMS

DUE to a decrease in the number of active CFA volunteers on the mountain this year, new staffing arrangements are currently being put in place at Mt Buller CFA station for winter 2017.

Central to this will be the placement of a full time operations officer from District 23 at Mt Buller station throughout winter, as has happened in past years.

At the time of going to press, however, no further information was available on resourcing, as this was still under discussion at District 23 office.

For any serious incidents on the mountain, additional brigade support will immediately be called upon with Merrijig and Mansfield brigades able to respond if required.

However, distance and weather conditions will impact on how long it will take those brigades to arrive on scene, as Merrijig is around 30 minutes away, Mansfield 45-50 minutes at best.

Longer term plans regarding resourcing of the Mt Buller station into summer 2017/18 and beyond are still being discussed, and in light of the proposed fire services restructure, it may be some time before a more settled structure is determined.
