THE Labour Day long weekend heralded a return of two hugely popular events to the Mt Buller region; the celebrated GT Bike Buller Mountain Bike Festival and the iconic Picnic in the Park food and wine festival.
Family, friends and a flood of bikes flocked to the resort for the start of the GT Bike Buller Festival, starting the Labour Day weekend with welcome drinks at the Bike Club of Victoria.
Hundreds of competitors then woke for an early start on Saturday, tackling a range of challenging events including the 40km Stonefly Circuit, the 20km Buller Blitz and the Outlaw All Mountain Trophy.
The weather gods played nicely and the village was abuzz with excitement on Saturday evening when the now infamous 16 inch Dual Slalom was held, followed by the Pump Track Pursuit.
On Sunday riders competed in the Brake Burner mountain bike event on Mt Buller, while over 1000 food and wine enthusiasts flocked to the picturesque Mirimbah Park, to picnic under shady autumn trees by the Delatite River at the annual Picnic in the Park.
Dozens of local stallholders, including Ros Ritchie, Social Bandit, the Produce Store, and the Mansfield Coffee Merchant promoted the flavours of the High Country with a variety of tempting dishes and drinks on offer.
The weekend wrapped up on Monday with the Gravity Enduro race and the Corn Hill 20km XC, held on Mt Buller’s worldclass mountain bike trails.
