Spring skiing is the best
ALTHOUGH spring has arrived on Mt Buller and Mt Stirling and the wattles are blooming and the sun is shining - there is still a mountain of fun to come over the next month.
The action keeps on over the next four weeks including Kids’ Week - what better place to spend school holidays than on top of the world?
Below are just a few of the action spots which can be enjoyed - right up to the end of the season on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1.
ABOM MOGULS - 02 SEP:
The world’s best freestylers tackle the bumps at Mt Buller.
The ABOM Mogul Challenge attracts a world-class field including Winter Olympians and World Cup competitors.
The event’s history dates back to late 80s and this iconic, colourful mogul competition is now one of the longest running race events in the world attracting the world’s best skiers from across the globe.
A fantastic spectator event, the ABOM Mogul Challenge always draws a lively crowd.

THE 2017 Subaru Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships will be hosted at Mt Buller from September 6-10.
1500 students from 250 schools from across Australia will participate in the Nationals.
Competitors will compete in nine disciplines including Alpine Giant Slalom, Snowboard Giant Slalom, Snowboard Cross, Ski Cross, Moguls, Cross Country Classical, Cross Country SLIP SLIDING: This young boy was having a great time slipping down the slopes of the toboggan park during last season’s school holidays. Coming up are school holidays again with kids’ programs in the fore – lots to do and loads of fun to be had. SHAKE off your fluoro onesie, slip on your leg warmers, and get that hair up in a scrunchie 80s Day at Mt Buller is back and brighter than ever.
For one fun-filled, action packed day, resort guests, staff and residents will dust off their tightest and brightest retro ski outfits and hit the slopes in style, making the most of the fantastic spring weather.
And remember this one rule - make it tighter, make it brighter, and make it shinier.
11am - 1pm: Kofflers Hutte - The DJ will be spinning 80s classics as contestants compete in the Air Guitar Championships.
2pm - 3pm: Village Stage live 80s dance troupe The Real Hot Bitches perform, as we attempt to break the unofficial Onesie World Record.
3pm - 7pm: Official 80s Day Party at The Birdcage - DJs will be spinning hours of 80s hits, best dressed awards will be handed out for “Best Retro Ski Gear” (his & hers), and “Best Retro Apres Wear”, and there will be fun games to play and drink specials over the bar.
The Birdcage is located in the Chalet Hotel on Summit Road. HELLO PROSPECTIVE POND SKIMMER - 23 SEPTEMBER
THE elite third-and-a-half annual Pond Skim National Championships at Mt Buller.
Despite being recognised as the National Championships, you don’t actually need to follow an athlete pathway from your local pond skimming club, through the state league, to reach national glory.
Just register online and give it a crack (talent scouts are proposed for 2018+).
Since 2016 didn’t happen due to lack of snow - new scoring for 2017 sees costume points doubled (to 50 per cent of total score).
Plus we’re giving prizes to 5th posi.
All competitors MUST sign a waiver and get a wristband at the Saleyards Ticket Office between 9am to 11am on the morning of the event.
* For safety reasons (and something to do with a maelstrom back in 2014) NO SHARP THINGS are allowed, including ski poles. KIDS WEEK -
ALL week long we’re celebrating Mt Buller’s smallest guests with special, kid friendly activities on offer each day. Mt Buller mascots Blake the Flake and Barry the Pygmy Possum will be out and about so make sure if you find them to say g’day. BANGERS ‘N’ MASH - 30 SEPTEMBER
