THE BIG HOUSE RULES REVEAL
TELEVISION RENOVATION SHOW OVERHAULS FAMILY’S WORN-DOWN PROPERTY
IT WAS the highly anticipated home reveal on House Rules on Sunday night, which overwhelmed Mt Druitt’s Steve and Tiana.
There were tears of happiness, according to the father-and-daughter team, who said they were pleased with the transformation of their three-bedroom home.
“I was absolutely blown away when I walked in to the house, it was way more than I expected,” Mr Falzon.
“I have always had plans to try and do my own house up, but never to that magnitude, and they (other teams) did an unbelievable job.”
For Ms Falzon, who said the house looked “amazing,” her emotion came from the joy she felt watching the family react to the changes.
“Seeing how much that house was going to change my dad’s life, my brothers’ and (Steve’s partner) Deanne’s lives, it really hit home … I was so glad they loved what they were walking in to,” she said. Mr Falzon’s 1960s, yellow-brick house was in dire need of an overhaul. In a week, the other teams recreated its interior, working with Steve and Tiana’s five house rules.
The pair said the unwritten and most important rule for other teams was to keep the home’s essence and memories. Mr Falzon’s wife and Ms Falzon’s mother, Danielle, died 19 years ago.
“I don’t know how they did it but the best part of it is that when you walk in it still feels like home,” Mr Falzon said, adding that he was grateful of how the other teams kept old photos.
The favourite parts of the house were the boys’ personalised bedrooms and the combined kitchen, living and dining room that has polished concrete floors.
The duo gave Queensland’s Ben and Danielle the highest score, a nine out of 10. They had one of the boys’ bedrooms and the living room.
“It is definitely not a house I can be embarrassed of any more but one that I am proud of and want to show off now,” Mr Falzon said.
