COUNTRY singer John Denver’s troubled personal life is set to be examined alongside his public persona in a show at Panthers next month.

The John Denver Story will showcase the musical triumphs of the 1970s’ singer/songwriter and will be performed by Rick Price and the Colorado Quartet.

Price learned a lot about the man behind hits like Leaving on a Jet Plane and Take Me Home Country Roads through reading the script.

“It surprised me that he continued to try to maintain his marriage when he was travelling so much and I was surprised by the amount of humanitarian work he did before it was fashionable,” Price said.

“It’s been a great experience to tell John’s story, singing his songs and to see how the audience responds to that. It’s been a great sort of excursion for me.”

The concert, which is not a tribute show with impersonations, has been a hit with Denver fans.

“It’s almost like a spiritual connection for them to the music that they love. I want people to leave the show feeling uplifted and informed.”

Known for his own hits such as Heaven Knows and Just Walk Away Renee, Price had finished touring Europe and Asia with fellow Australian icon Tommy Emmanuel, when he was invited to present the show.

Price will perform 20 of Denver’s greatest hits and will narrate his life story.

Aside from the Denver show, the Price will release his next album in July.
