Festival brings streets to life

POP star Marlisa Punzalan wowed the crowds at the Streets Alive festival on the weekend.

The X-Factor winner serenaded residents as they marched, ambled and danced their way through the Blacktown parade on Saturday.

Volunteer firefighters, police officers and war veter- ans joined floats not far from African dance groups, physical culture troupes, Filipino seniors and car lovers in the ute muster.

The 2400 people in the parade came from 58 groups. The event attracted 60,000 revellers and capped off the Blacktown Festival, starting with the Medieval Fayre on May 23. Saturday saw Main St, Flushcombe Rd and Campbell St closed and taken over by stalls. Kings Langley Lions members sold sausage sandwiches while it was easy to find gozleme and corn cobs.

Glendenning resident Punzalan started her performance by belting out Pharrell Williams’ Happy.
