Stan targets Sydney’s soul
STAN Walker has personally picked Mt Druitt for his only instore appearance as he promotes the release of his latest album
The five-time ARIA awardnominee, winner and New Zealand judge will perform at Westfield Mt Druitt’s centre court on Saturday at noon.
Walker said he chose Mt Druitt because he knew a lot of people who lived in the area.
“I have a lot of friends who live out that way and I’ve done heaps of little shows and performed at a lot of festivals and community events in the area,” Walker said.
“Mt Druitt and the whole area out there is great and I’d rather get out of the city to where the people are.
“When discussions started about where to go, I said, ‘ we need to be getting out there (Mt Druitt)’.”
Walker’s latest album was released in May, and presents his reinterpretation of some of soul’s biggest songs by the likes of Ray Charles and Otis Redding.
“It wasn’t until after I had recorded the album that it hit me that I’d better not mess it up,” he said.
He said he hoped the album introduces a new generation to the iconic hits and the legends who made them famous.
