THE Syd­ney Craft & Quilt Fair, at the Syd­ney Ex­hi­bi­tion Cen­tre, Glebe Is­land, from June 17–21, will be a hub of cre­ativ­ity cov­er­ing hand­made soft fur­nish­ings, dec­o­ra­tive art, wear­able art, em­broi­dery, knit­ting, pa­per craft, tex­tile art, vin­tage fash­ion and stunning quilts. The quilt ex­hi­bi­tion will fea­ture the best from three na­tional chal­lenges: A Red & White Spec­tac­u­lar, fea­tur­ing 438 lo­cal works pre­sented by The Quil­ters’ Guild of NSW; the Lest We For­get Quilt Chal­lenge – 100 years, 100 quilts; and True Blue. The True Blue chal­lenge fea­tures 35 in­ter­pre­ta­tions of the theme rang­ing from Aus­tralian scenes and blue heeler dogs to shades of blue, images of de­pres­sion, sport­ing he­roes and ref­er­ences to the #I’ll Ride with You cam­paign. A 30th an­niver­sary ex­hibit by the Dec­o­ra­tive Artists’ As­so­ci­a­tion will fea­ture hand­painted fur­ni­ture and painted can­vases. Fab­ric designer and craft guru Chrissie Jef­fery from No Chintz will ex­hibit a fun kids’ room and demon­strate DIY ideas. Knit­ter Pru­dence Map­stone will dis­play a col­lab­o­ra­tive piece us­ing con­trib­u­tors from around the world to make a 50 years of flower power cro­chet and knit art­work. Paper­craft ex­pert Ker­rie Gur­ney will show vis­i­tors how a hand­made card can be a work of art.
