THE Sydney Craft & Quilt Fair, at the Sydney Exhibition Centre, Glebe Island, from June 17–21, will be a hub of creativity covering handmade soft furnishings, decorative art, wearable art, embroidery, knitting, paper craft, textile art, vintage fashion and stunning quilts. The quilt exhibition will feature the best from three national challenges: A Red & White Spectacular, featuring 438 local works presented by The Quilters’ Guild of NSW; the Lest We Forget Quilt Challenge – 100 years, 100 quilts; and True Blue. The True Blue challenge features 35 interpretations of the theme ranging from Australian scenes and blue heeler dogs to shades of blue, images of depression, sporting heroes and references to the #I’ll Ride with You campaign. A 30th anniversary exhibit by the Decorative Artists’ Association will feature handpainted furniture and painted canvases. Fabric designer and craft guru Chrissie Jeffery from No Chintz will exhibit a fun kids’ room and demonstrate DIY ideas. Knitter Prudence Mapstone will display a collaborative piece using contributors from around the world to make a 50 years of flower power crochet and knit artwork. Papercraft expert Kerrie Gurney will show visitors how a handmade card can be a work of art.
