WHEN Junior Sports Star nominee Natasha Whitting signed up to play for Penrith Football Club two years ago, never in her wildest dreams did she expect to be scouted for an American scholarship.

But the 15-year-old Tregear resident is now preparing to move to the US when she finishes school next year.

“I’m excited because I have wanted to go to America since I was really young,” Natasha said.

Scouted and invited to trial for National Scouting Report Australia earlier this year, Natasha said the selectors were impressed with her skills and attitude.

Natasha’s mum was also surprised by her daughter’s affinity for the sport.

“She’s doing really great,” Mrs Whitting said. “We didn’t expect her to be this good in such a short time.”

Natasha, who plays for the Penrith FC under-17 side, has also been asked to play for Emu Plains and Jamisontown.

For now, Natasha will continue to play locally and maintain the grades she needs for her scholarship.

Nominations for the Rebel-sponsored 2015 Junior Sports Star awards are open until October 23. To nominate someone visit junior or jss@newslo
