THE NSW Swifts have earned a place in the ANZ Championship Semi Final, despite a loss to ladder-toppers Queensland Firebirds on Sunday.

The Swifts knocked the West Coast Fever out of finals contention with a close 60-53 win on Friday night.

There was little time to celebrate as the Swifts moved straight into the Australian conference final against the Queensland Firebirds on Sunday night.

While injured captain Kim Green played for half the game against the Fever, she was rested for the Firebirds match.

The Swifts held their own amid a crowd of Firebirds supporters, but the Queensland side wore them down in the final quarter with a final score of 44-55.

The Firebirds were crowned Australian Conference Champions but the Swifts still have a shot a the grand final if they pull off a win against New Zealand Conference Champions the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic. While the pressure mounts, Swifts midcourter Paige Hadley said she was excited to play the Magic at Claudelands Arena in Hamilton, New Zealand, on the Sunday night.

“Pretty pumped to head across to New Zealand to meet Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic on Sunday,” Hadley said.

The ANZ Championships grand final will see the winner of Sunday night’s match hosted by the winner of the Firebird’s game against the SKYCITY Mystics, also played on Sunday.
