Spe­cific topic ar­eas in­clude: anatomy, phys­i­ol­ogy and pathol­ogy, com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills, aro­mather­apy mas­sage, aro­mather­apy Clin­i­cal Prac­tice, first aid, ad­vanced aro­mather­apy prac­tice, busi­ness skill treat­ment eval­u­a­tion and mon­i­tor­ing, and the de­vel­op­ment of nat­u­ral prod­ucts.

TAFE teacher Fiona Carr said stu­dents got valu­able pro­fes­sional ex­pe­ri­ence by prac­tis­ing on ac­tual clients in a state-of-the-art aro­mather­apy clinic at Rand­wick Col­lege.

“Your main tools are es­sen­tial oils de­rived from plants for their aroma and health-giv­ing ben­e­fits,” she said.

“But there are plenty of other as­pects to learn and em­brace.

“These cour­ses are suit­able to any­one look­ing for work in the health in­dus­try with a gen­uine de­sire to help oth­ers.

“You need good com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills; must be will­ing to work as part of a team and be em­pathic to the needs of oth­ers, and dis­play a pas­sion for es­sen­tial oils.”
