Magic hold off Magpies
THE Division 2 Blacktown Magic Australian Rules Football Club kept the Western Suburbs Magpies at bay, winning by 26 points at Blacktown International Sportspark.
The final score was 12.12-84 to 9.4-58 at the Rooty Hill sportspark on Saturday.
The win was needed for the Magic after losing their last two games, which forced them to concede the top spot on the ladder.
The Western Suburbs led by 10 points at the end of the first quarter, but Blacktown put on a fierce comeback to steal a nine-point lead by half-time before going on to win the match.
Blacktown Magic president John Clifford said the team played well, despite the fact they were down some of their regulars because of holidays, sickness and injury.
“They played exceptionally well,” Clifford said.
“The Wests are a very skilled and tough side, and our boys really stepped up to the mark.
“We were down a number of players due to holidays, sickness and injuries – we pulled up a couple of the younger players.”
The Magic will be looking for another win when they are hosted by the Randwick City Saints on Saturday.
