Con­struc­tion to be­gin as ALDI gets green light

SU­PER­MAR­KET chain ALDI will shortly be­gin con­struc­tion of its store at the Syd­ney Busi­ness Park fol­low­ing Black­town Coun­cil’s ap­proval of its de­vel­op­ment ap­pli­ca­tion.

ALDI will build a 1000sq m store on the 8048sq m site it bought in Mars­den Park, with the open­ing set for early next year.

It will join IKEA, Lindt & Sprungli, McDon­ald’s, Bun­nings, Mas­ters Home Im­prove­ment, Home Hub, Shell and Swire Cold Stor­age in the first stage of de­vel­op­ment, which opened in 2013.

The Shell petrol sta­tion, which in­cludes a Coles Ex­press, be­gan oper­a­tions on June 23, be­com­ing the latest multi­na­tional to open there.

An ALDI spokesman said the com­pany would pro­vide another em­ploy­ment boost in Western Syd­ney’s growth area.

“More and more peo­ple have be­come fa­mil­iar with the ALDI dif­fer­ence, which is driv­ing greater in­ter­est among shop­pers in the area,” he said.

“Our Mars­den Park store will cater for this grow­ing de­mand by of­fer­ing an un­beat­able shop­ping ex­peri- ence for res­i­dents and work­ers in the area.”

The Ger­man chain has more than 340 out­lets coun­try­wide.

When com­pleted, the 256ha Syd­ney Busi­ness Park is ex­pected to cre­ate 17,000 jobs.
