Fines for smok­ing

Fines of up to $300 for in­di­vid­u­als and $5500 for busi­ness will now be handed out to peo­ple smok­ing within four me­tres of pedes­trian ac­cess to cafes, li­censed premises and restau­rants un­der new amend­ments to the Smoke­free En­vi­ron­ment Act 2000. NSW Health Min­is­ter Jil­lian Skin­ner said the gov­ern­ment was com­mit­ted to pro­tect­ing the com­mu­nity from sec­ond­hand smoke.
