THE STORY SO FAR
Aboriginal Medical Service Western Sydney has been placed in administration
The service provides essential and specialist services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients in western Sydney and the Blue Mountains
Patients will be transferred to other services in the next months
“The Health Department failed to mention that there was a lengthy period from September 2014 where funds were withheld from the AMS, who were required to continue services and pay salaries for a significant number of staff and without access to those funds.”
The Health Department spokeswoman said funds were withheld for legal issues.
An AMSWS spokesman said: “It was particularly insidious of the Government to suggest that there were concerns regarding the ‘delivery standards’ at the AMSWS. This accusation is completely unfounded.”
The AMSWS board of directors has appointed Michael Jones administrator.
