Pair building up support
Mt Druitt father-and-daughter duo Steve and Tiana Falzon are through to o the grand final of House Rules and Werrington childcare centre The Learning Jungle is right behind them.
THE local community is cheering on Mt Druitt’s dad-and-daughter duo Steve and Tiana Falzon – the House
Rules underdogs who have made it to the grand final.
Even kids from The Learning Jungle childcare centre, where Ms Falzon is the director, are backing the renovation heroes.
The Falzons were the first of two teams to make it through after topping the leaderboard in last night’s episode, scoring 17 out of 20 points. They will now go up against Queensland’s Ben Edgeworth and Danielle Russell in one last challenge that will determine the winning team.
“We could not believe we made it through,” Mr Falzon said. “We actually turned to each other and hugged.”
Ms Falzon said the pair shed tears of happiness and relief when the final scores were revealed, as it had been their toughest week yet.
The teams transformed a charity house for a carer and four children. The Falzons had to revamp the largest zone, comprising the kitchen, the sitting room, a study nook and a shower room.
“Our plan was just to do our best, but I was a bit defeated because I kind of felt like the other two teams had completely written us off and did not see us as a threat at all,” Ms Falzon said.
But the duo surprised everyone and the judges commended them on their work, acknowledging that they met all house rules, with Joe Snell saying they had “come a long way”.
“The judges’ comments were that it was the best styling they had seen from us,” Ms Falzon said. “If there was ever a time to count, this was it.”
For Mr Falzon, it was a proud turning point.
“Tiana and I both doubted ourselves a little bit going into it, but coming out of that week, we knew that we were just as good as everyone else and deserved it,” he said.
The pair were ecstatic about having their home renovated earlier in the series and said that securing a grand final spot was “mindblowing”.
Viewers’ votes will be added to the judges’ scores in the grand final to decide the winning team, which will be announced during Monday night’s episode at 7.30pm on Channel 7.
