Haussmann to follow General

Mt Druitt - St Mary's Standard (East) - - SPORT - Ray Thomas

THERE was a real synergy for trainer John O’Shea’s Godolphin stable when Haussmann won the Civic Stakes at Rosehill last month.

Haussmann gave O’Shea reason to reflect on his extraordinary debut 12 months at Godolphin which had its genesis when the trainer won the same race last year with Generalife.

But before Generalife won the Civic Stakes, O’Shea was having a relatively quiet start to his tenure at Godolphin, prompting some criticism of his appointment.

The criticism faded as O’Shea settled into the job and Godolphin’s famous royal blue colours started to frequent the winner’s stall.

Generalife followed his Civic Stakes by racing away with the Listed $100,000 Winter Stakes (1400m) – the same double Haussmann will attempt to complete at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

The Winter Stakes is the final stakes race of the 2014-15 Sydney season, with only three city meetings remaining after the Rosehill meeting on Saturday.

FOCUS ON JUVENILES

AUSTRALIAN racing’s fascination with juveniles extends through the season.

Two of the main races in NSW in coming days are both feature two-year-old events.

On Tuesday, the $25,000 Ballina Bracelet (1250m) at the Ballina meeting is the highlight race while on the same day at Dubbo is the running of the $20,000 Silver Goblet (1100m).

KEEP BACKING COSTIN

MY TIP for Rosehill Gardens on Saturday is to follow star apprentice Winona Costin – again! She continues to ride in outstanding form despite having her allowance reduced recently to 1.5kg.

I hope to see you trackside soon.
