Reserve may get named
A RESERVE in Tregear may be named after long-time community stalwart Jim Maynard, who served in the area for more the 40 years.
The reserve next to Tregear Public School, only known as Reserve 856, was selected as it is close to the Maynards’ home and is the venue for the Tregear festival, of which the late Mr Maynard was the founding member.
His daughter Therese Johnson said the decision meant a lot to her and the whole family.
“He always wanted to help everybody out and keep himself busy. A lot of people knew him and respected him,” she said.
“He was my best friend – we did everything together and I looked after him right up to the end.”
My Maynard, who died last year, was a member of the Tregear Public School P & C for more than 40 years.
He served as president of the Tregear Festival and pushed for the introduction of Neighbourhood Watch and Safety House programs in the area.
Blacktown Council has put forward the name change to the Geographical Names Board for approval.
