SARINA RUSSO HITS MT DRUITT
SARINA RUSSO SECURES 200 WORK PLEDGES
THE Sarina Russo Job Access office launch in Mt Druitt turned into an auction for job prospects on Thursday when Ms Russo began calling on business representatives to pledge jobs.
Within 20 minutes, the famed employment guru secured more than 200 openings for work.
Keynote speaker Alan Jones encouraged employers to give others the opportunity someone gave them.
A long-time Job Access supporter, the radio shock jock also addressed the newly signed-on jobseekers and urged employers to reach out.
“Believe in yourself and Sarina Russo will restore your self-esteem,” he said.
“Nothing creates selfesteem and self-worth more than someone wanting to employ you.
“This is a growth area, people have got to stop being snobs.
“The notion that some people have that ‘I’ll go and live in Western Sydney, the toilets are out the back’ is a nonsense argument.
“With all the Struggle Street stuff – in every suburb and in every society there’s someone getting robbed, there’s someone who’s car is getting stolen, there’s someone who is struggling at school and not doing well in every part of the community – that’s the nature of it.
“There is a minority that’s left out but to appropriate that to this particular community is ridiculous.”
Ms Russo, who has been in business for 36 years, said she had been trying to open an office in Mt Druitt for about 18 years.
“I don’t know what the hold up has been,” she said.
“I have no idea but we’re here now and that’s what’s really important – we’re here.”
It was clear her goal was to inspire confidence in the company’s ability to provide jobs.
“Alan Jones is a great believer in this district and he really supports the interpretation of the challenges and opportunities of Western Sydney,” she said.
“He’s a legend. So when a legend endorses something, then you listen.”
