These cases fall un­der the cat­e­gory of public li­a­bil­ity claims, which cover a va­ri­ety of cir­cum­stances where an in­di­vid­ual is in­jured as a re­sult of a per­son, busi­ness or gov­ern­ment au­thor­ity fail­ing to take rea­son­able care for their safety.

Another le­gal op­tion is a claim for civil as­sault against the as­sailant.

In these cases the court may award dam­ages for pain and suf­fer­ing re­lated to in­juries or dis­abil­i­ties caused by the at­tack, past and fu­ture loss of in­come, past and fu­ture med­i­cal
