WE have all heard the disaster stories: roofs collapsing, pipes bursting, electrical fires.

Big risks are a reality for tradies but it can be the small things that cost.

“Dust build-up often occurs during construction and carpentry work (and) can cause members of the public to become unwell,” Theo Pitsakis, leader of business insurance at AAMI, said.

“Tools can pose a threat if they are left unsupervised.”

Excavations, construction or renovations can damage a house’s plumbing or wiring, causing water damage, fires or power outages.

Add copper theft, flammable materials and sparks from soldering and you have many obvious risks.
