HE’S NO FLASH IN THE PAN
St Marys’ own Keiynan Lonsdale goes from strength to strength in Hollywood. The former MTV VJ has landed the role of Wally West/Kid Flash in the DC Comics series.
ST Marys actor Keiynan Lonsdale continues to make his mark in the acting world, landing the role of Wally West/Kid Flash in the DC Entertainment and Warner Bros series The Flash.
He will play Wally West, the nephew of the Flash’s girlfriend Iris West, in at least 10 episodes of the series’ second season.
Lonsdale, 23, has made an immediate impact on Hollywood since moving there just 12 months ago.
He landed his first major film role last year, cast in the Diver
gent sequel Insurgent as Uriah, and will reprise the role in the series’ third film Allegiant: Part 1.
He was also cast in Disney’s adaptation of The Finest Hours.
“I was obsessed with the show ( The Flash) before I even knew about the audition, which is just a crazy coincidence,” Lonsdale told NewsCorp.
“They have created such an exciting series with The Flash, so I can’t wait to portray Wally West and I can’t wait to work with such a great team of professional people.”
Lonsdale’s mum, Vicki Lonsdale, who still lives in St Marys, said her son was not always that comfortable on stage.
“The minute Keiynan came along we knew there was something different about him,” Ms Lonsdale said.
“He was a completely different child; he was 100 per cent shy.
“We used to have to wrap him up in blankets to get him on stage.”
Despite being a quiet child, Lonsdale quickly realised he had a talent and always dreamt of a career in entertainment.
Ms Lonsdale said she was proud of her son and had a hard time keeping the news of his new role under wraps.
“I knew about it ages ago,” she said. “The funny thing was he had just started watching
The Flash series and then they rang him for the role. For people my age, comics were to us like phones are to young people these days – they were the biggest thing you could get.”
The second season will air on the America cable network The CW in October.
Australian fans will have to wait until the show airs on Fox8 later this year.
