IT IS not often flatpack furniture and crayfish have something in common.

But Ikea Marsden Park will give residents a taste of Sweden when it hosts a traditional kraftskiva or crayfish party from 5.30pm today.

Visitors to the store, which opened in May, will don their paper hats and bibs to try the buffet, with delicacies including bright red crayfish, cheese pie, herring, bread, salmon and traditional songs.

Ikea Marsden Park store manager Annie Chandler said the party was a distinctly Swedish celebration.

“The Marsden Park community has welcomed us and we’re celebrating by bringing Swedish culture to our neighbours,” she said.

Meals range between $10 and $30 and bookings are essential.
