GOLDEN Slipper hero Vancouver and Silver Slipper winner Headwater are likely to clash in a tantalising showdown for the Group 3 $125,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Vancouver, unbeaten in four starts last season, was sold after his Slipper win in March as a potential stallion prospect in a deal that esti- mated the colt’s worth at more than $40 million.

The super colt will continue to race during his three-year-old season so every start will be widely anticipated. CUPS RUNNETH OVER THE country cups circuit is in overload this weekend.

There are three cups meetings on Saturday: $25,000 Casino Cup, $15,000 Carinda Cup and $10,000 Narrandera Cup, all over 1400m, then on Sunday there is the $26,000 Narromine Cup (1600m). FOLLOW TEAM HAWKES MY TIP for Rosehill Gardens on Saturday is to follow Team Hawkes.

The training partnership of Hall of Famer John Hawkes and his sons Michael and Wayne has had a flying start to the new season and produced several promising gallopers.
