Brothers on track
MADSENS’ MIXED FORTUNES
IAN and Kerry Madsen turned in impressive performances at the 55th Knoxville Nationals last week.
The St Marys brothers competed in separate races.
Kerry had a spectacular finish, crossing the line as runner-up in the A-main final to reigning champion Donny Schatz.
After the race, Kerry tweeted: “Well, ran 2nd wasn’t through lack of effort or car speed. Congrats to the 15 team.”
His younger brother finished 19th in the B Main race.
It might not have been the fairytale finish Ian was hoping for but the St Marys sprintcar racer has a career to be proud of.
He was crowned Knoxville Champion in 2014 and returned this year for the 55th Knoxville Nationals but failed to make the podium. Ian said he enjoyed the thrill of the Sydney Speedway, and one of his highlights was winning the 50,000 race there in 2013.
Other highlights were his first World of Outlaw win in 2013 in Deer Creek, Minnesota, and becoming the Knoxville Champion in 2014.
“I always hoped I would (win) but for a long time it didn’t seem like I would even get a shot over here,” he said. “My big chance came in 2013 with the KCP Racing #18. We finished second the first year and won it the next year.”
