Race will give spring carnival contenders a chance to shine

Mt Druitt - St Mary's Standard (East) - - SPORT - Ray Thomas

NICHET, Kermadec, Royal Descent, First Seal, Foreteller, Hawkspur, Moriarty, Sweynesse, Messene, Grand Marshal, Who Shot Thebarman - these are just some of the stars expected for the Group 2 $250,000 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

The weight-for-age race is the starting point for many spring carnival contenders.

It will also feature Bur- bero and Weary, who ran the quinella in the Expressway Stakes this month.

The Royal Randwick meeting is the unofficial start of the Sydney spring carnival with five stakes races on the program. TEST FOR SEBRING SUN

SEBRING Sun gets another thorough test in the Group 3 $125,000 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) at Randwick’s feature meeting.

The Gary Portelli-trained colt has won both starts this campaign but will face tough opposition. SHINN TO SHINE

MY TIP for this weekend is to follow form jockey Blake Shinn at Royal Randwick.
