Think­ing player al­ways tries to be best he can

“He is the ul­ti­mate com­peti­tor. He is a kid where just play­ing a sport isn’t good enough. He wants to be the best at it, what­ever it is,” Mr Te Puia said.

“He took out player of the tour­na­ment for the state cham­pi­onships in Oz­tag this year and, con­sid­er­ing there would have been thou­sands of kids, that was pretty awe­some.

“He’s just a good football player, (he has a) good kick­ing game and he’s got a good head on his shoul­ders – he’s a real thinker.”

Last year, Car­los scored two tries in his school’s first PSSA Ju­nior Rugby League grand fi­nal win.

While he is well-known on the field, the young­ster does not seek the spotlight but just en­joys play­ing.

“I like play­ing with my friends,” Car­los said.

He said he wanted to be a pro­fes­sional league player like (New Zealand War­riors’) Shaun John­son.
