Creating healthy rules for my canteen
STUDENTS at Rooty Hill High School went head to head in the kitchen on Thursday delivering a healthy menu option for their canteen.
Taking the lead from hit reality show My
Kitchen Rules, the Year 8 students battled it out in My Canteen Rules.
The project forms part of an alliance between Total Canteen Solutions and Western Sydney Local Health District.
It is one of the initiatives trialled at 14 of the more than 40 schools in Sydney with canteens managed by Total Canteen Solutions.
Initiatives include healthy express lines, increasing prices of sugary drinks while reducing the price of bottled water, healthy loyalty cards, peer-led projects, clear marketing and student surveys.
In the My Canteen Rules challenge, stu- dents created healthy menu items to be voted on. The winning dish would feature on the term four menu.
They included a chicken burrito, beef burrito, berry yoghurt smoothie, granola berry pot and gluten-free cauliflower base pizza.
