Giving new sports a whirl
ALMOST 1500 people celebrated all things sport at the Blacktown SportsFest on Saturday.
Sports nuts were treated to clinics with Penrith Panthers players Elijah Taylor and Peter Wallace as well as players from the Western Sydney Wanderers.
Youngsters were also able to learn the finer points of rhythmic gymnastics, while softball fans gleaned some advice at a clinic with Australian players Sam Poole, Taylah Tsitsikronis and Stacey McManus.
Meanwhile, Blue Sox coach Jason Pospishil took on the baseball inflatable for the enjoyment of cheering fans.
Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali lead by example joining the Sydney Thunder mascot Thor in a group fitness class before facing off with a four-year-old at the tennis net.
Cr Bali said the festival was about encouraging the community to “try any, try all”.
“It’s about raising awareness of the various different activities that are available,” he said.
