Giv­ing new sports a whirl

AL­MOST 1500 peo­ple cel­e­brated all things sport at the Black­town Sports­Fest on Satur­day.

Sports nuts were treated to clin­ics with Pen­rith Pan­thers play­ers Eli­jah Tay­lor and Peter Wal­lace as well as play­ers from the Western Syd­ney Wan­der­ers.

Young­sters were also able to learn the finer points of rhyth­mic gym­nas­tics, while soft­ball fans gleaned some ad­vice at a clinic with Aus­tralian play­ers Sam Poole, Tay­lah Tsit­sikro­nis and Stacey McManus.

Mean­while, Blue Sox coach Jason Pospishil took on the base­ball in­flat­able for the en­joy­ment of cheer­ing fans.

Black­town Mayor Stephen Bali lead by ex­am­ple join­ing the Syd­ney Thun­der mas­cot Thor in a group fit­ness class be­fore fac­ing off with a four-year-old at the ten­nis net.

Cr Bali said the fes­ti­val was about en­cour­ag­ing the com­mu­nity to “try any, try all”.

“It’s about rais­ing aware­ness of the var­i­ous dif­fer­ent ac­tiv­i­ties that are avail­able,” he said.
