NewsLocal campaigns score major international awards
NEWSLOCAL newspapers have taken out two prestigious international awards for the SnapSydney and Great War And Me community campaigns.
The PANPA awards for excellence were presented at a gala industry dinner at the Hilton Hotel last Friday night attended by newspaper and digital publishers and journalists from Australia, the Pacific and Asia.
NewsLocal’s groundbreaking SnapSydney campaign, which invited Sydneysiders to photograph their daily lives on one day of the year, won in the digital category of Best Niche/ Speciality App or Microsite.
More than 7000 photos were submitted by readers via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and email – the best of which were published online and in print. SnapSydney will be held again later this year.
NewsLocal newspapers also won the Consumer Campaign of the Year in the marketing division for its Great War And Me competition. School students were invited to use words, art and video to document the life and experiences of a soldier, sailor, nurse, medic or ani- mal in the Australian armed forces in the Great War.
Almost 450 entries were received. Winners shared in $21,000 in prize money.
As well as the awards, NewsLocal photographer Braden Fastier was highly commended by judges for his work.
