FROM the first opening to the shock close, through picket lines and a triumphant return, the Rooty Hill Youth Swim Club has remained connected to the Mt Druitt Swimming Centre.

Now both the club and centre will celebrate significant milestones – the club’s 50 years and the pool’s 40 years.

Club president Tony Portelli said records showed the swim club had made use of Mt Druitt pool since it opened in 1975.

“It is a wonderful pool, there is plenty of space around it and it is heated.”

The club will be taking reg- istrations early at the open day on Saturday before officially opening them on Tuesday. Alana-Kerri Broomham, 15, said she was angry when the pool was closed without consultation.

“I joined the protests, I had signs and was screaming because I have been going here since I was six,” she said.
