A new breeding group of cotton-top tamarins has taken up residence on Mary’s Island in the heart of the zoo. Likened to punks due to their distinctive crest of long white hair, cotton-top tamarins are highly social primates found in the forests of northwest Colombia. Classed as critically endangered, tamarinds have lost more than 75 per cent of their original habitat to deforestation and are also under threat from the illegal pet trade.
