Montgomery said: “It was always going to be a tough game without him. We trained the other boys in different positions and they pulled it off perfectly.”

Rangers’ Hayden Dalmazzi scored with only nine minutes to go securing the win.

Having trained for this match three nights a week since last October, the win was a big achievement.

“The team were tired, but they were absolutely chuffed,” Montgomery said.

“We are so proud of their efforts.”

It was the first grand final for the club in that age group. All members of the team are set to come back for the 2016 season, with Chris Zaccazan to coach again.

The Mt Druitt Rangers’ under-16s team will also contest the National Premier League 2 division grand final this weekend against the Central Coast Mariners.
