Emily to run against cancer
AFTER seeing a friend suffer from cancer, St Clair’s Emily Blinoff dedicated her life to making a difference in the community.
Swapping her career as a hairdresser to work as a carer for the elderly and disabled, the 21-year-old said she was previously ignorant to how many people struggle with illness every day.
She said she was touched by The Kids Cancer Project and has organised a fun run to raise funds on Sunday, September 27.
The run will follow the 6km track around Nepean River and members of the public are welcome to join in and are encouraged to wear yellow or gold.
“Cancer is everywhere, and it’s something most people feel strongly about. A close friend of mine was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma at the age of 16,” she said. “When everyone was excited about getting their license, going to parties, studying for their HSC, he was fighting for his life.
“This is something no young person should have to endure, the medications aren’t cheap and the operations are horrible.”
Ms Blinoff has already raised more than $2500 and hopes to reach a total of $3000 up until the event.
