RES­I­DENTS with dis­abil­ity liv­ing in the Mt Druitt and St Marys re­gion will have ac­cess to the Na­tional Dis­abil­ity In­sur­ance Scheme, which will be rolled out in 2016.

In his first ma­jor act as prime min­is­ter, Mal­colm Turnbull signed an agree­ment for the $22 bil­lion scheme to be rolled out across NSW and Vic­to­ria.

The pro­gram aims to as­sist more than 140,000 peo­ple with dis­abil­ity – as well as their fam­i­lies and car­ers.

Tran­si­tion to the NDIS will be­gin in July 2016, cov­er­ing all el­i­gi­ble peo­ple un­der 65.

Western Syd­ney will re­ceive ac­cess to the scheme from July 1, 2016, with res­i­dents across north­ern and south­ern NSW the last to en­ter the scheme in 2017.
