AFTER almost 20 years of working in health, Dr Kean-Seng Lim has heard it all – but he went into shock after hearing he was the GP of the year.

The doctor from Mt Druitt Medical Centre has been awarded the prestigious General Practitioner of the Year award.

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners presents the award each year to a GP who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the profession, excellence in primary health care, significant involvement in training and continuing professional development.

Dr Lim said he couldn’t believe it when he received the call.

“The best part of what I do is the continuing relationships I build,” Dr Lim said.

“I treat people as babies and then eventually treat their children.”

Dr Lim was nominated due to his role in developing a school-based obesity-prevention program which began at Rooty Hill High School.

Now, after more than 10 years, the program has been adopted by 22 schools in the Western Sydney area.
