New Masters store to open be end of year
THE local job market is set to receive a boost, with a Masters Home Improvement store to open in Penrith in late December.
The Woolworths-owned hardware store will employ 130 full-time, part-time and casual workers as Penrith Council strives to create 40,000 new jobs by 2031.
The Mulgoa Rd outlet will be the third large-scale home and hardware store to open in the area. There is also one in St Marys.
Masters store manager John Pratt said the competition was not a concern.
“We have a broad range of trading hours, so we provide very flexible times (that) people can work,” he said.
According to the latest Penrith Council figures, 87,200 Penrith residents are currently employed. About 30,800 have found a job in the Penrith region, but each day 56,400 residents are forced to leave the area for work.
“We will employ mums, we will have uni students and we will have people who will be employed in their first job as well,” Mr Pratt said. He said there would be 40 full-time, 50 part-time and 40 casual workers.
